So when I was in Miami, an older Filipino gentleman walked up to me and asked my name. 
"I'm Fred," I replied, to which he responded, "Fred Tan?"
"Yes..." I said, curious how he knew.
"Oh I'm Dennis's father," he told me.  Dennis Manalo is one of my company's founders and partners.
"Oh!  I see!" I said stupidly.  I swear I can't talk to strangers... especially my elders.
"You're Filipino, right?" he asked.  A familiar question.
"Chinese Filipino, yes."  My usual answer.
"So do you speak Tagalog?"  The usual followup question.
"No, I never learned."  My usual followup answer.
"Ah, but you've been to the Philippines.  I've seen your blog."
So THAT'S how he knew my name!
